Mailchimp has gotten Expensive
It used to be that if you had a phone line and internet provider you could accomplish pretty much anything on the internet. I have watched in frustration over the years at the slowness in uptake of the technology that lay before us. But somehow slowly, slowly, internet service providers and those who enable internet based businesses to thrive, have understood exactly where they lay in the marketplace and are starting to cash in.
I work with clients who want to start websites and social media marketing to boost their bricks and mortar businesses or to just start their business online. I have usually recommended the same providers over and over because I know and trust them and their prices have been reasonable.
Mailchimp changed their pricing structure last year and it’s really only taken me until now to see the true impact of that change.
They now charge for contacts, not just subscribers. So let’s say you collect an email address on an opt-in but the person decides for whatever reason not to subscribe to the list with a double opt-in. That person is added to your list as a contact.
Now, as far as I am aware, you cannot do anything (legally and ethically) with that contact. You cannot send them an email from your service provider because they have not asked to be contacted. You cannot export it to your own excel sheet and contact that person without the threat of…
